Owens Community College is proud to be an inaugural member of the Northwest Ohio Glass Innovation Hub following the State of Ohio’s $31.3 million grant to fund the 21-member consortium.
The Northwest Ohio Glass Innovation Hub outlines its goals on its website of establishing northwest Ohio as a global leader in glass science, engineering, technology and production.
As a key partner who began working with the consortium at its inception, Owens looks forward to supporting these goals and working with regional industry leaders, local universities, economic development leaders, startup companies and all levels of the regional workforce to help make Ohio the leader in advanced sustainable manufacturing.
Owens has a long history of working with regional employers and serving their talent development needs. By being nimble and agile in working with business and industry, Owens is well positioned to support the consortium goal of developing a qualified workforce pool at all industry levels, including production associates and STEM professionals.
The consortium is beginning work on its initiatives, which is expected to create 1,600 jobs and a $284 million economic impact over the next seven years.
Leadership
Dr. Denise Smith, Owens Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, serves on the consortium’s board of directors. Owens also has representation on the workforce and education sub-committees.
