Health Information Management is the practice of acquiring, analyzing, and protecting digital and traditional medical information vital to providing quality patient care. Health Information Technology professionals act as a liaison between clinical staff, operations, and administration.
About the Program
A career in health information technology combines the knowledge of and skills from health science, information technology, and business within the healthcare industry.
Students who complete the program are eligible for the Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) national credential exam.
Registered Health Information Technicians organize, analyze, and evaluate health information; compile various administrative and health statistics; and code diseases, operations and other procedures for research databases and reimbursement.
HIT professionals are responsible for maintaining and utilizing health information indexes, creating research registries, storage and retrieval systems; input and retrieve computerized health data, and controlling the use and release of health information.
The career path opportunities for health information technicians are expansive as the Health Information Technology industry continues to evolve.
