Owens Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program prepares students to become licensed physical therapist assistants.
Physical therapist assistants work under the supervision of physical therapists to improve mobility and function of patients and rehabilitate them to the highest possible level of independent living.
PTAs also help to educate patients on measures they can take to prevent further injury.
Treatments may include:
- prescribed therapy exercises for strength, coordination, balance and flexibility
- application of various modalities to reduce pain, inflammation and to promote healing
A licensed physical therapist assistant may work in a variety of health care settings including:
- hospitals
- sports medicine facilities
- outpatient clinics
- rehabilitation centers
- nursing homes
- in-home care
- schools
Upon graduation, students are eligible to sit for the state licensing examination.
